Often called the "Yushen Class" by NATO, the Type 075 Amphibious Assault Ship is the workhorse of the PLAN’s expeditionary fleet. Resembling a small aircraft carrier with its massive straight-through flight deck, this 40,000-ton vessel is designed to unleash a "vertical envelopment" assault, simultaneously launching waves of marines via Type 726 hovercraft from its well deck and dozens of helicopters from its roof. As of late 2025, the fleet has expanded to four active hulls with the recent commissioning of the CNS Hubei (Hull 34), solidifying the PLAN's ability to sustain long-range amphibious operations. These ships have been highly active in the South China Sea throughout 2025, frequently observed conducting "island seizure" drills and, in a major capability milestone confirmed in November, integrating Z-10 attack helicopters into their air wings to provide direct fire support for landing troops.
