The Boeing F-15 Eagle is the most successful air superiority fighter in history, with an air combat record of over 100 aerial victories and zero losses in air-to-air combat across four decades of international service. Designed in the 1970s specifically to ensure air superiority against Soviet fighters, the original F-15A established performance benchmarks in climb rate, turn performance, and radar capability that defined the generation. The subsequent F-15C remains the US Air Force's premier dedicated air superiority fighter even today, while the two-seat F-15E Strike Eagle variant added a world-class precision strike capability without sacrificing the Eagle's fundamental air combat excellence.

The F-15E Strike Eagle, operated in the largest numbers by today's Air Force, carries the LANTIRN and Sniper targeting pods alongside a massive weapons load (up to 23,000 pounds) for precision strikes against ground targets at night and in all weather. F-15Es have flown combat missions in every major US engagement since Desert Storm. As of 2025, the Air Force is fielding the new F-15EX Eagle II, an extensively modernized variant with fly-by-wire controls, a new AESA radar, updated electronic warfare systems, and the ability to carry hypersonic weapons, extending the Eagle's service life well into the 2040s.
