HC-144 Ocean Sentry Poster - Coast Guard Maritime Patrol

The EADS/CASA HC-144 Ocean Sentry is the US Coast Guard's primary medium-range surveillance and search and rescue aircraft, selected in the early 2000s to replace the aging HU-25 Falcon fleet. Based on the CN-235 light transport developed jointly by CASA of Spain and IPTN of Indonesia, the HC-144 combines a spacious cabin suitable for maritime surveillance equipment with twin turboprop engines that provide the range and endurance needed for offshore patrol operations. The aircraft carries a sensor suite including electro-optical/infrared cameras, surface search radar, and communications equipment optimized for maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and drug interdiction missions.

The HC-144 regularly operates from Coast Guard Air Stations throughout the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and overseas, flying patrols over vast areas of ocean that no surface vessel could cover with comparable efficiency. Since entering service in 2009, Ocean Sentries have supported counter-narcotics operations, migrant interdiction, fisheries enforcement, and numerous high-profile search and rescue cases. The Coast Guard is continuously improving the HC-144's sensor systems, and a mid-life modernization program ensures the fleet will remain effective into the 2030s.
