P-8 Poseidon Poster - Maritime Patrol & Sub Hunting Aircraft

The Boeing P-8A Poseidon is the US Navy's newest maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft, replacing the P-3 Orion after more than five decades of service. Based on the Boeing 737-800ERX commercial airframe, the P-8 brings jet speed, significantly faster than the turboprop P-3, to the maritime patrol mission, allowing it to transit rapidly to distant operating areas and cover more ocean per sortie. Its sensor suite includes the AN/APY-10 maritime surveillance radar, electro-optical and infrared sensors, acoustic processing for sonobouys, and the ability to carry MK-54 torpedoes, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and MK-82 bombs for anti-surface warfare.

The P-8 has proven extremely successful in service, with the US Navy operating a large fleet and international orders from Australia, India, Norway, New Zealand, South Korea, and others making it the dominant maritime patrol aircraft among US allies. P-8s have participated in numerous notable operations, including the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 and persistent surveillance missions in the South China Sea and around the Korean Peninsula. The aircraft regularly conducts freedom of navigation operations in contested waters, and Chinese and Russian aircraft intercepts of P-8s on these missions have become a regular occurrence. The P-8 is expected to remain the Navy's primary maritime patrol aircraft through the 2040s.
