VC-25 "Air Force One" Poster - Presidential Transport

The Boeing VC-25A is the aircraft the world knows as Air Force One, the designation applied to any Air Force aircraft carrying the President of the United States, though in practice exclusively used for the two VC-25As based at Joint Base Andrews. Based on the 747-200 airframe, the VC-25 entered service in 1990, replacing the aging VC-137 that had carried presidents since the Kennedy administration. The iconic blue and white livery, designed by industrial designer Raymond Loewy, has become one of the most recognized aircraft paint schemes in the world, an immediate visual symbol of American executive power wherever the aircraft lands.

The VC-25's interior is a classified configuration estimated at approximately 4,000 square feet across three levels, including the President's private quarters, conference rooms, a medical facility, communications centers, and areas for staff, press, and security personnel. The aircraft is equipped with advanced communications and security systems allowing the President to conduct government business from the air, including classified communications. Air Force One is never left unattended and is typically escorted by fighter aircraft when operating in potentially hostile areas. Two new VC-25B aircraft based on the 747-8 airframe are under development to replace the current VC-25As, with delivery expected in the late 2020s after significant cost and schedule challenges with the program.
