B-1 Lancer 🦴
US Air Force - Supersonic strategic bomber - Aircraft Recognition Playing Cards
Designed to outrun nuclear blasts and fly low under enemy radar, the Rockwell B-1B Lancer, affectionately known as the "Bone" (B-One), is the heavy metal hot rod of the U.S. bomber fleet. Entering service in the 1980s as a nuclear penetrator, it was stripped of its nuclear mission after the Cold War but found a second life as the supreme conventional workhorse of the Middle East conflicts. With its variable-sweep wings tucked back, the B-1 can hit supersonic speeds while carrying the largest payload of both guided and unguided weapons in the Air Force inventory. Far from retiring quietly, the fleet is running harder than ever in 2025. It has been actively testing new external pylons for future hypersonic missiles, and B-1s have been spotted everywhere from Norway for NATO integration to the Caribbean, where a flight of Lancers recently conducted a rare show-of-force mission near the Venezuelan coast.
